Psychologists are playing an increasingly important role in evaluating individuals’ readiness to become adoptive parents, particularly in the context of international adoption. As foreign governments continue to raise the standards and expectations for psychological assessments, the need for thorough and specialized evaluations has grown.

Dr. King has assisted families and adoption agencies in navigating evolving requirements for international adoption evaluations involving countries such as South Korea, Colombia, India, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. He has also provided consultation to agencies regarding the selection of appropriate psychological testing measures.

Dr. King’s evaluations incorporate both standardized psychological testing and a comprehensive clinical interview with a particular focus on assessing a caregiver’s parenting capacity as well as an understanding of attachment disruptions, trauma exposure, and other factors influencing a child's transition into a new family and cultural environment.
